Getting to Assos Kefalonia
If you’re up for an adventure, taking a trip to the northern part of Kefalonia is a must. Start your day with a visit to the stunning Myrtos Beach. If you don’t want to go down to the beach, do it like us and simply go to the stunning viewpoint.
After soaking up the sun, hop back in your car and head over to Assos Kefalonia. It’s only a 13-minute drive away. The road might be a bit steep, but the views are worth it. You’ll be treated to some pretty amazing sights of the landscape around you. And don’t worry about parking. There’s a car park right in the town, so finding a spot for your car is a breeze.
Assos Kefalonia is a place that allows you to fully embrace the beauty of the present moment. Time seems to stand still in this idyllic destination, making it the perfect escape for those seeking a peaceful retreat. We found ourselves strolling along the cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses, surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and lush greenery. This tranquil charm and breathtaking landscape are part of what makes Assos Kefalonia such a unique and captivating destination.
Discovering Assos
Despite the heat, we found ourselves strolling through the beautiful old houses, immersing ourselves in the authentic Greek atmosphere. We spotted locals and tourists alike enjoying the calm waters at the beach. Hungry from our journey, we stopped for lunch at a local eatery by the water, opting for a classic pizza. While the food was not the highlight of the trip, the stunning view and the soothing sound of the waves more than compensated for it.
Assos Kefalonia is rich in history and culture, with remnants of its fascinating past visible as you wander through the narrow streets. The Venetian castle that stands atop a hill overlooking the village is a testament to the village’s rich history. This fortress, built in the 16th century, offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. As you explore Assos Kefalonia, you’ll also come across several churches and chapels, each with its own unique story to tell.
Unfotuney we didn’t make it, given the heat and the uphill walk required. But we were told by fellow travelers that the panoramic view from the castle is worth the effort. This gives us a reason to return to Assos Kefalonia in the future.

Being avid photographers, we couldn’t resist capturing the beauty of Assos Kefalonia. We found the best spot for drone flying opposite the beach, slightly elevated, offering a breathtaking view of the entire area. Seeing Assos from above, we were struck by its picturesque landscape, reminding us of the Amalfi Coast, but with a quieter and more relaxed vibe.
Assos Kefalonia is not only a paradise for those seeking tranquillity but also a haven for nature lovers and photographers. The village offers a unique blend of natural beauty, from the sparkling turquoise waters to the lush green hills surrounding it. As you explore the village, you’ll be captivated by the vibrant colors of the houses and flowers, the picturesque charm of the cobblestone streets, and the breathtaking beauty of the natural landscapes. Assos Kefalonia is truly a photographer’s dream.
The Beach of Assos
Assos Kefalonia’s beach isn’t sandy; instead, it’s covered in small pebbles or stones. Although we didn’t go for a swim due to the heat during lunchtime, the water looked stunningly clear from above. We asked a local restaurant staff member about snorkeling, but she suggested that the beach wasn’t the best spot for it. Despite this, the beauty of the beach and the surrounding landscape were undeniably alluring.
Accommodation in Assos Kefalonia
In terms of accommodation, Assos Kefalonia appears to offer mostly homestays and apartments, much like the rest of Kefalonia. We believe that one could find fantastic apartments with ocean views that would allow visitors to fully enjoy the scenic beauty of the town. The charm of Assos Kefalonia, its quaint houses, colorful buildings, and beautiful ocean views, reminded us of the Amalfi Coast but with a more serene and personal atmosphere.

For a better experience, it’s recommended to park outside the village as the area is more spacious, providing easy access in and out. The distance from the village is not too far either, making it a convenient option.
Our time in Assos Kefalonia was magical. After a leisurely two-hour visit, we hit the road again, heading towards our next stop: Fiskardo. Assos proved to be the perfect place for a lunch break during our northern Kefalonia day trip. As we drove away, we couldn’t help but look back at the serene beauty of Assos, promising ourselves to return someday.
