Are you planning a trip to Moyo Island and looking to explore the stunning Mata Jitu Waterfall? This natural wonder is a must-visit destination for adventure-seekers and nature lovers alike. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your visit:
1. Best Time to Visit Mata Jitu Waterfall
The best time to visit Mata Jitu Waterfall is during the rainy season, which typically occurs from November to April. During this time, the waterfall is at its fullest and most impressive. If you’re planning a visit to Mata Jitu Waterfall in Moyo Island, we recommend trying to arrive as early as possible to make the most of your adventure. However, if you’re not an early bird, don’t worry – Moyo Island is relatively quiet and you may still have the entire waterfall to yourself even if you arrive later in the day. In fact, according to our local guide, going to the waterfall in the later afternoon can give you a majestic feeling as the sun sets over the stunning natural wonder.
2. Getting to Mata Jitu Waterfall
To get to Mata Jitu Waterfall, you’ll need to first travel to Moyo Island. The most convenient way to get there is by taking a flight from Bali to Sumbawa Besar, and then taking a Public boat which cost you 75.000 – 100.000 IDR. However, be aware that the information on the public boat’s departure may not be clear and you could end up paying for a private boat, which can be quite expensive at around 2.5 million to 3 million IDR.
To avoid any confusion or unnecessary expenses, we recommend reaching out to your accommodation on Moyo Island or booking a day trip from Sumbawa. This can save you time and hassle, and ensure that you arrive at your destination without any issues. Once you’ve arrived on Moyo Island, there are a few options for getting to Mata Jitu Waterfall. You can either hire a local guide or take a Gojek (a popular ride-hailing service in Indonesia) to the waterfall. Walking is also an option, but keep in mind that it can take some time and may not be suitable for everyone. Another option is to rent a motorbike or car to drive yourself, but it’s important to note that the roads can be quite rough and difficult to navigate, especially if you’re not used to driving in Indonesia. Plus, most of the scooters available for rent are manual and not brand new, which can make for a less comfortable ride.
To make the most of your visit to Mata Jitu Waterfall, we recommend taking a Gojek. We rented two Gojeks to take us there, which cost us 100,000 IDR per person, including village fees to help keep the waterfall clean. This was a convenient and affordable option that allowed us to sit back and enjoy the ride while taking in the stunning views of Moyo Island. Besides the driver acting as your local guide and ensuring that you have a great time at the attraction, they’ll also take you to the nearby Lady Diana Waterfall.
This stunning waterfall is actually an extension of Mata Jitu Waterfall and is located just a short walk away, around 8 minutes from Mata Jitu. And if you’re wondering why it’s called Lady Diana Waterfall, it’s because the world-famous icon visited the waterfall in 1993 and was so taken by its beauty that she named it after herself. So, not only will you get to see the breathtaking Mata Jitu Waterfall, but you’ll also have the opportunity to explore Lady Diana Waterfall and see for yourself why it’s named after one of the most beloved figures in recent history.
