1. Uluwatu
Uluwatu, located on the southwestern tip of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, is an alluring oasis known for its stunning cliffs, pristine beaches, and captivating ancient temples. Our adventure began as soon as we hopped on our scooter to explore this unassuming gem.
The lush, winding roads quickly offered a sense of freedom and excitement which inspired us to uncover all of Uluwatu’s hidden treasures but first, we must survive the Canggu-Seminyak traffic :D.
Getting to Uluwatu
Since we have our own scooter we go with our scooter as a thrilling and cost-effective way to experience its unique charm. Whether navigating the hilly terrain or coasting along the ocean, traveling by scooter allowed us to fully immerse ourselves in the natural beauty that surrounded us.
Where to Stay in Uluwatu?
Discovering the perfect place to stay in Uluwatu is a breeze! With options ranging from 30 to 150 euros per night, you’re sure to find a cozy spot that fits your style and budget. We loved the simply Uluwatu Kayana Bungalows for our weekend getaway, and it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the hotspots. Dive into the Uluwatu experience!
What to do In Uluwatu?
Once settled, we set out to explore Uluwatu’s many enticing attractions. One must-visit is the Uluwatu Temple or Pura Luhur Uluwatu, perched on a cliff 70 meters above the ocean and that is famous for the Kecak Dance.
Kecak Dance
The Kecak Dance, also known as the “monkey chant,” is a traditional Balinese dance that tells the story of the Ramayana, an ancient Indian epic. The performance is a group effort, with dozens of performers sitting in a circle, chanting and moving in unison to tell the story through dance and song. Unfortunatelyfor this show Lukas was still Germany back into September 2021.
Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK)
The centerpiece of GWK is the enormous statue of Garuda Wisnu, a Hindu deity who is half-man and half-bird, standing at an impressive height of 120 meters. This breathtaking masterpiece is a sight to behold and is one of the largest statues in the world.
In addition to the statue, GWK also boasts a cultural park that showcases traditional Balinese architecture, music, and dance. You can wander through the park and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Bali, learning about the island’s traditions and customs. Again I went to GWK when Lukas was still in Germany sadly!
Suluban Beach
Suluban beach also known as “Blue Point Beach”, Suluban Beach is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, crystal-clear waters, and some of the world’s most famous surf breaks. This stunning beach is tucked away beneath towering limestone cliffs, accessible only through a narrow cave passage, which adds to its exclusivity and charm. Once you emerge from the cave, you will find yourself surrounded by a panorama of natural beauty, from the shimmering turquoise waters to the verdant greenery that lines the shore.
Thomas Beach
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist crowds, Thomas Beach offers a tranquil escape with its serene ambiance and stunning natural beauty. Thomas Beach is renowned for its pristine white sand, clear blue waters, and panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Whether you’re a sun-seeker or a nature enthusiast, this beach is the perfect spot to unwind, relax, and soak up the sun.
Make sure to grab those trusty water shoes to keep your feet comfy because the beach quite rocky and the current quite strong. While looking for a cool spot to chill, remember that those umbrellas and lounging areas do require a fee on top of your order. Our buddy Lukas attempted some friendly haggling with the locals, but alas, his charm couldn’t quite win them over! 😄
Padang Padang Beach
Located at the bottom of a steep staircase that opens up to a hidden cove, Padang Padang Beach is a true tropical paradise. Its azure waters and dramatic cliffs make it the perfect spot for sunbathing and swimming. You can even rent a surfboard and ride the waves at this famous surf spot.
Karang Boma Cliff
Is One of the most stunning natural landmarks in the Uluwatu region of Bali, Indonesia. This breathtaking cliff offers panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and is the perfect spot to watch the sunset or simply take in the beauty of Bali’s natural scenery. Once you arrive at the cliff, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the blue ocean stretching out in front of you, with waves crashing against the rugged coastline.
2. Jimbaran
Making our back to Canggu we decided to make a stop at Jimbaran. Located on the island’s southern coast, Jimbaran is known for its stunning beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and authentic Balinese culture.
Jimbaran is also home to a vibrant fishing village, where you can witness traditional fishing practices and sample some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste. You can watch as fishermen haul in their catch of the day, or enjoy a delicious seafood feast at one of the many restaurants lining the beach.
Kelan Beach
Since Lukas is is aviation lover we decide to make stop at Kelan Beach right next to Bali’s airport. One of the unique features of Kelan Beach is its location next to Bali’s airport. This means that you can enjoy the stunning scenery of the beach while watching planes take off and land, a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
The beach itself is a long stretch of soft white sand and crystal-clear waters and yet very quite, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. You can take a dip in the ocean, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beach, or simply bask in the warm Balinese sun.
